First Place Pies

We try to keep as much normalcy to our lives as we can while living all over the country & one thing that makes it normal in our home is to always have something cooking or baking. We love all culinary arts, but especially baking & pastry. Rylie is becoming a great helper in the kitchen & beginning to take on bigger roles. She also understands basic french terminology such as prepping her ingredients “mise en place”, can assemble a “bouquet garni”  & also make a mean tomato salad with basil chiffonade.

Cooking in the camper is a bit more involved without large counter tops. In fact, every aspect of it takes a little longer, including cleanup without a dishwasher…but it also makes the adventure more fun…& the fruit of your labors just that much tastier!!

In downtown Portland, ME, we came across an amazing home decor boutique named K. Colette. Everything inside called out to us from the South African hand painted dishes…to the huge embroidered bed pillows…to the luxurious bath products (made me miss my bathtub for the 1st time since we left)! We got out safely with only 2 small items, Ken choosing a charcoal eye mask (well, it says charcoal makes for a more restful sleep:):)) & Rylie & I with our new cookbook First Prize Pies by Allison Kave!
