Gettin’ our Kicks through Arizona and Route 66!

Arriving in Page, AZ, we could hardly wait to see Lake Powell. We’d first heard about it on a TV show showing us some of the extreme houseboats that were built for the sole purpose of escaping to this beautiful body of water which winds through the canyons. In fact, our campground was ideally located overlooking the lake & marina so we had the perfect view of those very houseboats…and extreme, some of them definitely were!

While we did experience clouds, this place is just so beautiful that we couldn’t believe our eyes…can hardly imagine what the sun would do to the colors of those rocks & the water!

Arriving a little too late in the day to rent a boat for a self-guided tour, we ended up taking a boat tour deep into Antelope Canyon. We got some laughs as we boarded with the bus loads of others & grabbed our headsets for the audio tour. (Sometimes people watching is the best entertainment of all!)

On the next afternoon, we were able to hike through the AMAZING Antelope Slot Canyons. This was one of our favorite parts of the trip…we were just in total AWE of God’s creation…AWE!!! We are without excuse, right!!

On the edge of Navajo Nation are the beautiful grasslands and ruins of Wupatki National Monument, built by the ancient Pueblo people.

Next stop, Williams, AZ, the gateway to the Grand Canyon and also right on Historic Route 66!

Having breakfast for dinner at a Goldie’s Diner surrounded by Elvis, Lucille Ball, Betty Boop & plenty of vinyl records!

All aboard the Grand Canyon Railway…thank goodness the sheriff was on board to keep us safe from the train robbers!

Oh no, are those train robbers shooting at us? The sheriff was too late and they got us…they took Caden’s money too!! The entertainment really added to the whole experience of the Wild West!

What can you say about the Grand Canyon? I mean, could it even be real? I had to blink my eyes a few times because it looked fake…like a painted backdrop. I think my mouth was just hanging open for a few minutes as I realized that it was there before me. My goodness, Grand isn’t a big enough word!

While we’ve tried to be as adventurous as possible throughout the whole trip, this was one park that I had to prepare my whole family for. I’ve never been so thankful for a paved hiking path (something we would normally complain about or venture away from), but in this case, we were not stepping ONE FOOT off of the paved path. We’ve all heard about silly accidents resulting in death at the Grand Canyon, but peering over the edge…I was afraid the wind might blow & just push us over. It was as SCARY as it was beautiful…and we loved our incredible views from the safety of the metal fence or the asphalt path!

Back to Williams, safe & ALIVE, we were ready for more kicks on Historic Route 66!

Just west on The Mother Road, in the town of Seligman is the quirky and memorable Snow-Cap Drive In. We ate their famous Cheeseburgers WITH Cheese, of course & a side of mustard (you have to visit to get that one!) While you’re there, be sure to ask for a straw for your milkshake! This place is home to the Dead Chicken (still no clue about that!) and big on practical jokes…SO FUN!!!

Hmmmm…which knob could it be?

Just down the road….

A few hours later, we headed back to the campground in Williams to discover SNOW!!

A must-see on Route 66…actually, we just wanted to see the real life version of what the movie Cars was inspired by! Doc Hudson even met us there!

A journey through the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest and Four Corners concluded our awesome Arizona experience!!

Rylie was so excited to see the petroglyphs, it was on her bucket list!

The only place in America where you can touch FOUR states at the same time!!

…and since we’re already officially in Colorado, guess we will stay for a while….
